Streszczenie: Probiotyki – dzięki wielokierunkowemu działaniu, dobrej dostępności i stosunkowo niskiej cenie – stanowią interesującą opcję terapeutyczną w zapobieganiu i leczeniu licznych schorzeń, zwłaszcza takich, w przebiegu których dochodzi do zakłócenia homeostazy mikrobiologicznej jelit.

Abstract: Probiotics, with their multidirectional activity, broad availability and reasonable price, are an interesting option in prevention and treatment of many diseases, especially those with impaired homeostasis of intestinal microbiota. One of the most common and intensively evaluated probiotic’s species is Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG). Many studies have confirmed the efficacy and safety of this probiotic in the treatment of acute diarrhea and prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea in children and adults. LGG was shown to have beneficial effect as an adjunctive therapy in atopic dermatitis, respiratory tract infections, irritable bowel syndrome and Helicobacter pylori infection. Moreover, few studies have evaluated the effect of LGG in prevention of NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). In this paper, it was presented the main mechanisms of action of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and discussed the results of the most important studies with the use of this probiotic.
