Streszczenie: Choroba wirusowa Ebola (ang. Ebola virus disease – EVD), dawniej znana pod nazwą „gorączka krwotoczna Ebola”, jest wywoływana przez wirus o tej samej nazwie sklasyfikowany w rodzinie Filoviridae, rodzaj Filovirus. Zidentyfikowano 5 gatunków tego wirusa. Epidemia trwająca od 2013 roku jest największą epidemią od momentu wykrycia wirusa Ebola (EBOV) w 1976 roku. Obecnie nie istnieje szczepionka profilaktyczna przeciwko tej chorobie; nie ma także leków o swoistym działaniu. Nieliczne preparaty znajdują się na etapie badań eksperymentalnych. W pracy przedstawiono właściwości EBOV, epidemiologię, patogenezę, objawy kliniczne oraz badania nad szczepionkami i lekami.

Abstract: Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans. Ebola disease is caused by infection with a virus of the family Filoviridae, genus Ebolavirus. There are five identified subtypes of Ebola virus. The virus spreads person to person through contact with bodily fluids, such as blood or secretions. The current outbreak in west Africa is the largest and most complex Ebola outbreak since the Ebola virus (EBOV) was first discovered in 1976. No licensed specific treatment or vaccine is available for use in people or animals. In present, article information about the Ebola virus, its transmission, signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and study about vaccines and drugs are discussed.
